A luxurious stay in the heart of London, Covent Garden
Bold colours, striking furniture and lush furnishings are a must for those competing for the prize of your custom. One hotel that has been at the top of the luxury game for years and which always delivers is One Aldwych Hotel in Covent Garden.
It is the charm and character of One Aldwych hotel that sets it apart from its competitors. The hotel is set in a 1907 Edwardian landmark building, located in a thriving, bustling area, and offers exceptional customer service.
The entrance and walkways are chic, with minimalist rooms, large beds and wonderful furnishings – perfectly made for an ideal rest after a hard day of shopping or catching a nearby show. Whilst relaxing at One Aldwych, an experience not to be missed is a visit to The Health Club, with its glamourous 18-metre chlorine-free swimming pool, gym, and three treatment rooms – which have been designed to stand out from the crowd.
The Indigo Restaurant at One Aldwych offers a fantastic menu, which also happens to be entirely gluten and dairy-free. The menu, carefully crafted by Executive Chef, Dominic Teague, offers a variety of starters such as chicken ballotine, quinoa salad, truffle emulsion, and sliced lamb belly, whilst the main courses include Miso marinated Loch Duart salmon with pickled radish and mushroom bouillon, and Organic Rhug Estate lamb rump. Personally I decided to indulge in a 28-day dry aged grass fed Scottish beef, which was sublime. For dessert, which took a while to muster I must admit, a wonderful blackberry Pavlova for two to share.
Soon to appear at the hotel will be a new restaurant, Eneko at One Aldwych, in partnership with the three Michelin-starred chef, Eneko Atxa. The restaurant which will have a soft opening in August, is to be a fresh, stylish, but relaxed Basque styled restaurant and bar. Inspired by his Azurmendi restaurant, currently ranked 16th in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, and Bistro Pret A Porter, which has a Michelin Bib Gourmand. With his London debut he is looking “to create an unpretentious modern take on rustic Basque cuisine, based on quality ingredients, simplicity and culinary heritage.”
For those seeking a bit of drinking excitement, might I suggest sampling one of the amazing cocktails on offer in The Lobby Bar. I decided to try a smouldering cocktail which came in a mini shaker called “For Love” with chilliinfused Babicka vodka, ginger and lemongrass cordial, rhubarb liqueur and lemon juice. It provided my taste buds with some action for quite a while and a great photo moment.
Close by to the hotel you can visit Somerset House, a major arts and cultural centre in the heart of London, with a year-round programme of large-scale contemporary exhibitions and events. Currently showing, UTOPIA 2016 is a year of imagination and possibility, celebrating the 500th anniversary of Thomas More’s inspirational text, Utopia.
Nearby is also The National Gallery, which houses one of the greatest collections of paintings in the world and is currently showing Freud to Van Dyck (23 June to 4 September 2016) with free entrance 361 days a year. The National Portrait Gallery opened in 1896 and features portraits of the most famous people in British history. Currently showing is Black Chronicles (18 May to 11 December 2016), which showcases over forty photographs that present a unique snapshot of black lives and experiences in nineteenth and early twentieth-century Britain. These portraits of individuals of African and Asian heritage bear witness to Britain’s imperial history of empire and expansion.
Covent Garden is full of entertainment, with street performances happening in every area – from jugglers and singers to the occasional flame thrower. Close by you will also find the London Transport Museum, The Royal Opera House home of The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden Market, St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, and The Courtauld Gallery at Somerset House.
This contemporary yet classic hotel is a luxurious and hip place to stay in a prime position for all your needs when scheduling a trip to the capital. I am sure like myself you will find One Aldwych a wonderful place to stay. For more information please visit
